The Lovely Bones
21.3.10
Right after my maths test, I was a bit down, but not that tired. I didn't know what to do, so as usual, I went to the cinema= the only place that can surely cheer me up... and as usual, I just went to the cinema with an empty mind... no plan of what to watch or even where to watch (i just let my hands take the wheels.. yes, it swerved left at the last moment..) I parked, went straight into MBO, went to the counter, and start planning there... what movies have i not watched?? what time would be suitable?? to buy popcorn or not?? hahaaa...
Anyways, like stated above, this time the lucky winner is THE LOVELY BONES that's directed by Peter Jackson (i didn't know he could direct such a movie.. you know, NOT Lord Of The Rings material..) I had really wanted to watch it from a long time ago, and the timing was such a perfect fit that I didn't even consider anything else... bought the tickets, popcorns and mineral water (i'm on a diet? :P) and off into hall 5... i was in just on time when the movie started...
I must say, the movie does feel a bit dragging as its almost 2 hours... as the time frame of the movie is around 2 years(?).... It was enjoyable though (in a sense when ur alone and eating popcorn)... A very thoughtful movie... very deep... very complicated.. a bit weird and quirky at times.. the scenes inside the "in betweens" was beautiful, colorful, and very vivid... you don't even need 3D to feel the effect...
Although the ending was tragic... like you would know from the beginning anyway.. (this is NOT a spoiler)... I enjoyed it thoroughly... ALONE... i just felt that this kind of movie is exactly the ones you shouldn't be watching with someone else, namely a blunt, frank or even annoying person that talks all the time.. hahaa... ( i shueesh these people talking at the back at the most crucial time to have the environment quiet!!!!!).. anyways, you can always talk/discuss about it after the movie... right?
Thumbs up to Peter Jackson and all that worked hard to make this movie a success... i certainly enjoyed it, and would be looking forward to more movies in this genre.... or maybe more Peter Jackson movie that is mellow and drama than action and fantasy..? :P
Go watch!!!
The Book Of Eli
15.3.10
Watched on 4th of march?? I can't even remember already... huhuu
venue: GSC Dataran Pahlawan
Came in a bit late... by the time i'm in the cinema, Eli was scrubbing his body (taking a bath?) haha.. anyway, this was also a coincidence movie.... i didn't plan to go see it at all... me and a friend just choose one that almost starts, and we both haven't watched yet...
It was a very good movie through my point of view... the cinematography was stunning... the story was solid, although i must say i find it a bit amusing and stupid! haha..
The actors was of course brilliant.. Denzel didn't look that old.. and his acting was superb, like always... the girl playing a role close to his was also not bad... Mila Kunis portrays what needed to be... and plus, her eyes are crazy beautiful... haha... Gary Oldman was also excellent... the ending was kind of surprising in a way... talking bout surprises, there's quit a lot in the movie... enough to get you excited and engaged to the screen... definitely not boring at all...
The action part was at times surreal... and it certainly brings the X-factor to this movie...
Go watch!!! guys, just don't bring your dates to this one... unless you want them to be clinging to you during the gore scenes.... :P

Ten miles from town and I just broke down
Spittin' out smoke on the side of the road
I'm out here alone just tryin' to get home
To tell you I was wrong but you already know
Believe me I won't stop at nothin'
To see you so I've started runnin'
All that I'm after is a life full of laughter
As long as I'm laughing with you
I'm thinkin' that all that still matters is love ever after
After the life we've been through
'Cause I know there's no life after you
Last time we talked, the night that I walked
Burns like an iron in the back of my mind
I must've been high to say you and I
Weren't meant to be and just wasting my time
Oh, why did I ever doubt you?
You know I would die here without you
All that I'm after is a life full of laughter
As long as I'm laughing with you
I'm thinkin' that all that still matters is love ever after
After the life we've been through
'Cause I know there's no life after you
You and I, right or wrong, there's no other one
After this time I spent alone
It's hard to believe that a man with sight could be so blind
Thinkin' 'bout the better times, must've been outta my mind
So I'm runnin' back to tell you
All that I'm after is a life full of laughter
Without you God knows what I'd do
All that I'm after is a life full of laughter
As long as I'm laughing with you
I'm thinkin' that all that still matters is love ever after
After the life we've been through
'Cause I know there's no life after you
The song that's currently buzzing in my head over and over again...
Alice in Wonderland, 3D
I watched Alice in Wonderland 3D on the 8th of March with a friend...
venue : GSC Dataran Pahlawan
Since at GSC Dataran Pahlawan was the ONLY place in Malacca to have this movie in 3D, I don't have much of a choice now, do I??
I conclude the movie to be quite dissapointing, aside from the performance of MY favorite, sexy actor, Johnny Depp (yes, this could be not true.. haha)...
The 3D was not that obvious, even in the crucial fighting scenes... the storyline was a bit confusing in the beginning, turns boring and repetitive from the original to the middle of the movie, then it changes a bit, but not much excitement there on the new storyline...
It was a bit bland, and safe... with a cast of talented actors, this is definitely not what i expected at all from the movie... especially when Tim Burton is the director!!
oh, and i thought that Anne Hathaway was unsuitable, the lead actress a.k.a Alice, played by Mia Wasikowska (her name IS weird right??) was not convincing as Alice, but I think she is a fine actress that is going to be seen more and more from now...
Through all the dissapointments, I did enjoy watching this 3D movie, especially with someone beside me to share the experience with later... Go watch it once, in 3D is what I would suggest... a non-3D version might not be as enjoyable....u might regret not watching it at all.... there's Johnny Depp in it after all.. :P
Solomon Kane
11.3.10
venue: MBO Melaka Mall
date: today
date: today
This was totally an impulse decision to go watch any movie at all, and turns out the only one available at the time and i haven't watched yet was Solomon Kane....
I had absolutely and totally no idea at all of what the movie was about... I haven't watched the trailer, nor have i read the synopsis...
It's a movie that would make you cringe... it's a movie that would make you fear... and would make you hope...
Although there's a hint of romance in the storyline, it was not pursued, hanged at the ending... and the romance was not clear... its a bit blurry on the subject of whether the characters involved are actually in love or not...
It's like in Lord of the Ring's fighting scenes.... only this time, its almost the whole movie... there's devils, witches, evil people, kings, innocent girl, nice family, priests, the church, and Solomon Kane of course....
To be honest, when the movie started, for like 5 minutes into the movie, i was not convinced that the main character is actually the hero of this movie... i even went as hated the idea and screenwriter if he really was the hero...
It does develop quite slow in the beginning... but it gets to a nice pace towards the end...
Since i watched it alone, there's no talking and questions asked in the middle of the movie, nor was there any glances while making weird faces... hahha... even the hall being almost empty didn't make any difference in the environment... there was still noises from popcorn eating (me & ??) little whispers during *those* parts, and handphone going off... the best part though, was that i had a WHOLE row all to myself, my feet was propped up nicely on the seat in front, and my handbag on the seat beside....
:P
all in: good for boys who like gore, cruel killings... demons (no angels here!)... a good watch... not a must watch, but still... go see it if you like action packed movies... its not a let down, even if you come in not knowing a thing about it... oh, and one more... the main actor is kinda unknown (to me atleast)...
